A Perfect Day In Edmonds, WA: Part 2
I’ll say it again: there are infinity perfect days to be had in Edmonds, and not all of them take place in the downtown core. Our next perfect day takes place mostly in Perrinville and north Edmonds.
Legend (aka My Edmonds News) has it that when Carl Perrin returned to their comfortable home in downtown Edmonds and told his wife Gertie they had just become owners of a few acres of land a few miles northeast and they were moving, Gertie’s comeback to him was: “If I am moving to the sticks, then I am starting me a town.”
True or not—we will never know. Gertie was quite the story teller. However, one thing we can be sure of, Gertie did head for the Snohomish County Courthouse in Everett, paid 10 cents, and registered their land as a future town site in the year 1939—Perrinville was born. It is the small area of shops and restaurants with cute awnings and a four way stop between south and north Edmonds. If you go from south Edmonds and turn left onto Olympic View drive, you’ll take the scenic route, which weaves through South Country Park and its trailheads. It is stunning. So, that is where we’ll begin. Let’s imagine it’s a weekday morning, but you have the day off, so work is of no concern:
7:30 a.m.: Roll out of the house, drive to Mel and Mia’s for coffee or tea, pastries, and Euro vibes. If you’re interested in lingering, go instead to Bistro 76 and order one of their delicious breakfast items (but not the cinnamon roll because it’s not great. Go to Red Twig Cafe for that if you really want a cinnamon roll)
9 a.m.: Once your belly is full, order a second coffee to-go, load up the car and head over to Picnic Point Park to see a shipwreck, expansive views of the Sound, and trains rolling past.
11:00 a.m.: Check out the schedule for the new yoga studio, Yoga Sanctuary, and take one of their classes, OR browse the shelves at the Neverending Bookshop. You could even get your nails done at NV Nails. If it’s a nice day, you could walk those trails in South County Park I mentioned. They are kid and dog-friendly.
Noonish: Right outside of the Perrinville Village and technically in Lynnwood is the best gyro/Greek salad in the area. Pop into One Stop Market and get you some for lunch. Add the Big Beans. Trust.
1ish: Go to Wilder & Co. for one of their magicians to work magic on your mane. The vibes alone in this salon fronted by a crew of talented young women is enough to keep bringing you back. If you’re feeling adventurous, get some hand-tied extensions. But be sure to book them way in advance—many aren’t’ taking new clients and book out at least six weeks prior to appointments.
4 p.m.: Call in your BBQ order to Fat Pig BBQ and don’t scrimp on the sides—their beans and coleslaw are also excellent. Pick it up on your way home and eat while you bask in the deliciousness that was your second perfect day in Edmonds.
*Note: If you go to Perrinville on a Sunday this late fall/winter, they have a crafty holiday market set up at the four-way stop. On Saturdays, they usually host The Cottage a Blue Ridge bakery in the same location.
Our third perfect day will take us to south Edmonds, Firdale Village, and an exciting new cafe that opened just a few months ago. In the meantime, I’d love to hear about your perfect days in Edmonds! What are your favorite things to do and see?
