A Perfect Day in Edmonds, WA: Part 1
It’s no secret that I am our town’s biggest fangirl. We moved to Edmonds, WA two years ago. We were searching for community and water views and serenity. At the end of a long day, we wanted our home to feel like a retreat from the city. We found that in Edmonds.
Nearly every day, I discover something new to love about this place. It’s a haven for artists, it supports its small businesses, it works to preserve its rich history, it gives us views on views on views. I am so grateful for it. There is no way I could have ONE perfect day in Edmonds, so this is the first of a series I plan to write as I explore our town more.
Let’s imagine that my husband isn’t basically a self-trained chef and I had to eat all my meals out. Let’s also imagine it’s a weekend day in the late summer. That’s where we’ll begin:
Breakfast: I pop into the Red Twig for a pastry or full breakfast, depending on how hungry I am. I order their Chai Tea Latte either warm or on ice, depending on the temperature outside. Then, I take myself to a bench by the water and watch the ferry come and go. Maybe I bring my book or a journal to write. I take deep breaths and enjoy the ocean breeze + water smells. IDK about you, but I love water smells.
I mosey on over to the Farmer’s Market where I buy up all the good-looking produce I want for the week. Maybe I grab a bouquet of flowers, too.
From there, I order a cappuccino to-go from Walnut Street Coffee and take myself on my boutique rounds with stops at Little Bipsy, Rogue, and Anchor Chic Consignment. I pop into Barre3 to see if they have any new athleisure I can’t resist.
Lunch: Shopping makes me hungry, so I head over to MAR.KET. I order a sushi-rito or the fish and chips. I sit outside. I’m loving my day so far and want to enjoy a lunch beer, so I finish up my food and pop into Salish Sea or Brigid’s Bottleshop for lunch dessert ;)
On my way back into the downtown core, I stop by the Edmonds Bookshop to see what they have for me. I take my time reading the backs of books and eventually make a purchase. Because I love food and just had a beer, I have the munchies, so I grab a bag of freshly-popped popcorn from the Edmonds Movie Theater and take myself on a walking tour of the town’s murals. I love the town’s murals.
Since this is MY perfect day, I decide I’d like a little pampering and see what Ombu has to offer me (some sauna time? Brow sugaring? A blowout? All of it!)
Happy Hour/Dinner: Once I feel properly beautified, I meet my husband at our favorite restaurant in Edmonds: Kelnero. We order too many drinks and too much food, just the way we like it. We laugh and converse and stare at each other lovingly. He drives us to one of the many hidden lookouts around town where we do more staring and laughing and probably some making out, too.
By 9 p.m., we are happily spent and ready for bed. It has been an Edmonds Kind of Day.
On my next perfect day in Edmonds, I will explore beyond the downtown core. Stay tuned!
